Our Sunshine Coast Libraries are among our best loved and most used assets.
And we are always looking to making the experience of visiting your local library an even better one for everyone.
Last year, our eight library branches and two mobile libraries received an amazing 1.4 million visitors, with 2.5 million items borrowed and 400 volunteers providing 20,000 hours of support.
We added another 17,000 new library members to take the total past 113,000 which makes it the biggest "club" on our Sunshine Coast.
There are now 395,000 items in the library collection that members can borrow for free.
At our February council meeting last week, councillors endorsed plans to expand Coolum Library which was identified as one of the smallest in the library network while experiencing some of the highest growth in visitor numbers.
The Coolum Library alone welcomed 180,000 people last year.
This expansion is a great investment in our community and I'm sure will be welcomed by library lovers in the Coolum region. If you haven't visited a library for a while, I encourage you to pop in for a look.
