One of the many tourism success stories here on our Sunshine Coast has been the addition of cruise ships as a way of bringing visitors to our region.
I'm pleased to report that in 2019 we have a record number of cruise ships scheduled to drop anchor off Mooloolaba, delivering a huge economic boost with each visit.
It was only four years ago that the first cruise ship came to the Sunshine Coast.
Now, in 2018, we’ve enjoyed welcoming guests from five international cruise ships with two more – Amsterdam and Seven Seas Mariner - scheduled for November and December.
For 2019, we have a record 13 cruise ship visits locked in, from January through to December.
Latest Tourism and Events Queensland research shows cruise ship guests to the Sunshine Coast spend an average of $269 per day so each visit, with around 1800 passengers, injects just under half a million dollars in the local economy.
The positive impacts are felt throughout the region, including in our Hinterland communities.
Thank-you to everyone who shows off our wonderful Coast hospitality during each cruise ship day.
