The Sunshine Coast and our smart city development at Maroochydore took centre stage at the annual assembly of the nation’s local governments in Canberra last week.
The Australian Local Government Association National General Assembly of Local Government 2017 theme was Building Tomorrow’s Communities - one that aliged closely with what is underway here in our healthy, smart, creative region.
In a great opportunity to showcase the Coast to a wide audience, I addressed the 800 mayors, councillors and senior local government representatives, highlighting our unparalleled opportunity to develop a new city centre from the ground up.
In the new CBD, we will have a vibrant hub of commerce, technology, innovation, entertainment and inner-city living.
This week there is another milestone as we start laying the first of 1.7km of underground pipes which comprise the Australian first, underground Automated Waste Collection System .
This innovation plus smart lighting, smart power, smart parking and smart transport are all being built in as we go.It' a project we can all be proud to be a part of.
