The nomination period is now open for Sunshine Coast Business Awards (SCBA) which celebrate the efforts and achievements of our region’s vibrant business community.
I’m proud to say Sunshine Coast Council has been a partner of the Business Awards in various capacities since their inception 20 years ago and our strong record of partnership was enhanced six years ago when council took on a leading role by signing on as a platinum sponsor.
The Business Awards, which highlight the best and most innovative businesses we have in our region, have become the largest of their type in regional Australia.
They are undoubtedly our region’s premier business honours program with an impressive performance track record of identifying and highlighting our highest achievers.
It’s very heartening that the awards now consistently receive around 400 nominations per annum from across the region.
We are seeing more nominees each year, particularly beyond the central zone of the Coast as our regional economy continues to develop in new areas.
These awards are helping to showcase our outstanding businesses not only to a local audience but also to wider audiences in Queensland and nationally.
And it has provided the platform for some of our best businesses to be recognised and celebrated at the national level in events such as the Telstra Business Awards and the Queensland Tourism Awards.
But not only do these awards give us the opportunity to give well-earned kudos to our business achievers – big, medium and small - there are distinct flow-on economic benefits.
An engaged, responsive and aspirational business community is a healthy one and one which inspires further growth and investment.
With that investment comes more enduring employment opportunities and the delivery of new facilities and services to meet the needs of our communities.
The Awards have also provided an opportunity for businesses to engage and bond with each other, potentially creating mutually beneficial relationships.
I would encourage everyone to engage in this year’s awards by nominating businesses you think have excelled in the past 12 months.
I’m sure they would appreciate it.

The winners will be announced in November at the SCBA Gala Ceremony at Novotel Twin Waters Resort and I look forward to being part of the celebrations.
