Mayor Jamieson - Welcoming the Commonwealth
  • Thursday 15 February 2018

With the Commonwealth Games now only a couple of months away, the expectation and excitement is building and we won't be missing out here on our Sunshine Coast.

We're looking forward to more than 500 athletes and officials joining us for their pre-Games preparations and welcoming the Queen's Baton Relay which will make its way through Caloundra on March 27.

Team Scotland will be here in big numbers along with representatives of eight other countries from both hemispheres, including athletes and swimmers from Wales, triathletes from England and Australia's women's rugby sevens and netball teams.

We'll also be home to competitors in multiple sports from three of the Commonwealth's smaller nations - Niue, Isle of Man and St Helena.

Our visitors be training in 18 different sports, using a wide range of sport and community venues around the Coast.

We're working on a range of activities to embrace our visiting athletes, coaches, officials and their supporters to ensure their stay is productive and fondly remembered.

Keep an eye on council's website for all the details.
