A bridge in time

Sunshine Coast Council is expected to commence work on the replacement of a timber bridge at Meyricks Road, Glasshouse Mountains at the end of February.

Division 1 Councillor Anna Grosskreutz said she is pleased with the thorough planning undertaken by council staff in preparation for this project.

"The existing bridge has reached the end of its serviceable life and will be replaced by a single lane reinforced concrete structure with improved flood immunity," Cr Grosskreutz said.

"The estimated cost of the project is $400,000.

"It will be necessary to close the bridge for the duration of work.

"Detour and traffic management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

"During construction, property access may be affected for short durations.

"Council officers will contact residents, where relevant, to discuss timing for access or parking if work is likely to block entrances.

"There are a number of well established large trees at the site and council will do everything possible not to disturb the existing vegetation.

"Revegetation using local native plants will commence once the bridge replacement is complete.

"If the weather remains fine, work will be completed on the replacement bridge within ten to twelve weeks."
