One of Caloundra’s most endearing characters is set to be immortalized.

Di Barnett, a prominent and well respected figure in the Sunshine Coast Scout community, will be honoured at the unveiling of a memorial bench in her name, outside Caloundra Library.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said unveiling of the new bench was an honour for council.

"Di Barnett was a wonderful contributor to Caloundra and the Sunshine Coast through her roles with Scouts that spanned 45 years," he said.

"Di passed away just over a year ago but her legacy of helping others will live on via this new bench seat outside the Caloundra Library."

Ernie Barnett (Di’s husband) said the bench was a symbol of his wife’s hard work for the community.

"Di lived in Caloundra for 38 years and was very popular around town. This bench reflects her strong scouting background with a hand routed scouting symbol and also a brass plaque reflecting her love of scouting and the community," he said.

"The bench seat was crafted from yellowbox timber and will be an attractive addition to the Bulcock Streetscape refurbishments."

Cr Tim Dwyer and Ernie Barnett will be available for interview and photo opportunities from 10:30am.
