A quarter of development

Sunshine Coast Council’s Development Indicators Report provides an in-depth look into development activity on the Coast.

Director Development Services Julie Edwards said the Development Indicators Report is released every quarter and includes a comprehensive summary of development activity on the Sunshine Coast.

"The report profiles the volume of development and contains information on town planning, subdivision, building and construction activity," Ms Edwards said.

"The total number of development applications lodged in the first quarter of 2012 was 2,477.

"The several types of development applications that council receives and assesses include reconfiguring lots, material change of use, operational works, plans for subdivision, plumbing and building applications."

Ms Edwards said that building application figures for construction on the Coast in the first quarter have an estimated value of over $200 million.

"The statistics for the number of lots created shows a significant increase from the same time last year," she said.

"303 lots have been released in this quarter compared to 202 at the same time last year. Each new lot represents a potential new house, industrial or commercial property.

"We are also seeing an increase in the number of approved plans of subdivisions - a 52% increase compared to the last quarter.

"A positive sign of activity in the real estate industry is the increase in the number of building searches undertaken. There were 761 building searches completed in the current quarter compared to 635 in the last quarter.

"The final pages of the Indicators Report highlight a number of applications of general interest about development activity locally.

"Development applications that have been approved or are still in progress reflect that the Sunshine Coast is continuing to attract a diverse range of new businesses, major activities and community interest developments."

The Development Indicators Report is available every quarter on council’s website. For enquiries regarding planning applications call 5475 7526 or 5475 PLAN.
