A section of Sugar Road at Maroochydore will be closed to traffic at night for around two weeks while Sunshine Coast Council improves the road surface as part of its Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program.
The reconstruction and resurfacing work, scheduled to start on Monday night, May 25, will be carried out between Wises Road and Dalton Drive to repair wear from vehicles.
Division 4 Councillor Chris Thompson said the new road surface would be a welcome improvement for the many motorists who travel on Sugar Road each day.
“Sugar Road was in need of an upgrade so I’m pleased to see this work starting, and I’m sure many others will be too”, Cr Thompson said.
“We realise this work may cause some inconvenience and thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
“Doing the work at night will cause far less disruption than the alternative of closing it during the day.”
To minimise disruption to businesses and residents, work will only take place between 6pm and 6am. The road works may cause some noise, which will be reduced wherever possible to minimise any impact on nearby residents.
Detours will be in place via Maroochydore Boulevard and Dalton Drive, while traffic controllers will help with parking and access for residents.
Cr Thompson said Council’s annual Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program focused on maintaining the region’s 2370km sealed road network.
“Council is committed to delivering a safe road network and is currently undertaking remedial works across the region via this maintenance program,” he said.
Property access may be affected for short durations during construction. Council officers will contact relevant residents and businesses to discuss the project and make arrangements for parking or access.
