All aboard the Krauss Locomotive Design Report

Sunshine Coast Council’s Krauss Design Report is out of the station and full steam ahead, ready for community feedback.

Division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford said the finalisation of the Krauss Design Report was a critical milestone in bringing the Krauss Locomotive back to where it belongs, in Buderim.

"The Krauss Locomotive project represents an exciting opportunity to showcase some of the rich history that helped to develop the village," he said.

"The locomotive transported goods and people between Palmwoods and Buderim Mountain between 1915 and 1935.

"The Buderim Palmwoods Heritage Tramway Inc has been carefully restoring the locomotive since 2004, after it was purchased with the financial support of council."

In August 2011, Buderim residents and the wider community were invited to share ideas and help to shape the Buderim Central Parklands Landscape Concept Plan – of which the Krauss locomotive project is part of.

Cr Hungerford said the community feedback on the concept plan overwhelmingly supported the display of the Krauss Locomotive in the proposed location on the corner of Lindsay Road and Burnett Street.

"Council has carefully evaluated the feedback and is pleased to present the Krauss Locomotive Design Report," he said.

"Let your friends and neighbours know that the design report is available for download and review on council’s website and a hard copy is available for viewing at the Old Buderim Post Office Community Information Centre.

"The report proposes a preferred location for the display that balances the social, economic and open space values of the project. The display will convey and encapsulate the themes and aspirations that emerged from the Buderim community.

"To comment on the report or for further information please email council’s Landscape and Urban Design Unit at parkscapitalworks@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au by Friday 30 November.

"The finalisation of the report will enable fundraising for the project to commence."
