Biosecurity Queensland is investigating reports of an American corn snake on the Sunshine Coast and Sunshine Coast Council is helping to raise awareness with the local community to be on the lookout.

American corn snakes are a Class 1 pest and have the potential to impact native animals and carry new diseases.

American corn snakes have previously been found in Queensland and Biosecurity Queensland has successfully removed all known cases.

Biosecurity Queensland has liaised with a reptile expert from the Queensland Museum to identify the species of snake.

Anyone who sees the exotic pest is urged not to approach the animal and to immediately contact Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23, or contact a local snake catcher.
