Animal FanFair: Humans – Animals – Environment is on display until Sunday, May 22 and features works by 10 high-calibre Australian artists who address the social issues behind animal and human relationships.
Exhibiting artists include Katka Adams, Marian Drew, Hayden Fowler, Kelly Hussey-Smith, Owen Hutchison, Claude Jones, Sam Leach, Emma Lindsay, Rod McRae and Walter Stahl. The artists have expressed their passionate ideas through their visual mediums of photography and moving images, painting, mixed media, print making, installation art, performance art and sculpture.
The artists in Animal FanFair are some of the many dedicated people who work towards fostering awareness, conversation and action to improve humankind’s relationship with animals.
The artists urge us to consider the complex and often contradictory relationship we have with animals and the environment that supports them.
The largest artwork incorporates a five-metre taxidermy crocodile, while the smallest work is an oil painting of a Rosella only 22cm high.
Educational didactics for children have been produced for this exhibition to provide additional information to a young audience, which may find some of the imagery challenging, and to share the artists’ concerns with the region’s future generation.
Appealing to young and old alike, the official opening at 6pm on Friday, April 15, will include a Geckoes Wildlife presenter, featuring captivating live animals including native Australian owls and snakes, to name a few.
Animal FanFair is a Moreton Bay Regional Council touring exhibition, managed by Museum and Galleries Queensland. This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
