Art Prizes showcased at Libraries
  • Tuesday 02 December 2014

Did you know Sunshine Coast Council’s library branches exhibit award winning artworks for the community to enjoy across the region?

Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said next time you are visiting Maleny Library make sure you stop to appreciate the 2014 Sunshine Coast Art Prize winner, Servo, created by Matthew de Moiser.

“When first observing the colourful sparse surburban landscape it appears to be a painting but on closer inspection the meticulously crafted piece is made of laminex and is visually compelling,” Cr McKay said.

Kym Barrett’s Kenilworth Painting Prize Will you join in the Cosmic Dance? on loan from the Kenilworth Arts Council will also be on display. Kym has used nature’s colours to inspire her work with a combination of paint, charcoal and crayon.

“I encourage the community to take the opportunity of viewing these extraordinary artworks on display at Maleny Library from December 12 to January 9.”

Sunshine Coast Libraries has a long history with showcasing winning art pieces. Maroochydore Library currently hosts Peter Hudson’s Law, the stunning winner of the 2009 Sunshine Coast Art Prize.

The Council-owned heritage and art collections can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week – thanks to new improved access through the Sunshine Coast Libraries online catalogue. Visit Council’s library website to view the Arts and Heritage Collections catalogue.
