If you are fascinated with cultural heritage, museums and exhibition, Sunshine Coast Council has just the thing for you.

Those working in the heritage industry, or residents who are interested in history, are invited to attend a free Our Heritage, Our Stories workshop at the newly constructed Bankfoot House Interpretive and Archival Centre from 11.30am to 3.30pm on Wednesday, June 3.

The fascinating workshop program includes three industry experts speaking on a range of topics.

Cultural heritage professional Kylie Winkworth will kick off the proceedings with a presentation covering the nuts and bolts of public programs, from generating ideas to running the event in a museum or heritage place.

Kylie encourages people to bring in their own object to this interactive workshop and looks at ideas for public programs built around sharing object stories from community museums.

Historian and Curator of the Old Government House Dr Katie McConnel will share some of the fascinating challenges and successes of establishing a museum in a 150-year-old building that has no objects and is also regularly used for events.

Council’s Senior Cultural Heritage Officer Peter Connell will present a case study on a major refurbishment, expansion and redevelopment exhibition project within the heritage-listed All Hallows’ Convent, built in 1858.

Participants will also have an opportunity to be one of the first to tour the newly constructed Interpretative and Archival Centre.

This is a free event funded by your Cultural Heritage Levy.  Lunch and refreshments will be included.

Book early to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited. Bookings are essential via Council’s website.
