Be aware of dog attacks in Palmwoods and report sightings to council

Sunshine Coast Council is calling on the Palmwoods community to keep an eye out for dogs roaming unattended following several attacks on animals in the area last night and today.

Four pet cats yesterday and a chicken last week were killed in Palmwoods with witnesses reporting seeing two dogs roaming in the vicinity of the dead animals.

If you have any information which might assist council to locate the dogs or if you witnessed the attacks, please contact council on 54 757272.

Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the attacks highlight the need more than ever for people to be responsible for their pets.

"If anyone notices stray dogs roaming in the Palmwoods region or knows anything about the attacks, please contact council immediately," Cr McKay said,

"While council has been quick to respond to calls and be on site to assist and investigate, witnesses or people who come forward with information will help them to identify the savage dogs and take action.

"In the meantime, we are continuing our extensive patrols of the surrounding areas and will remain vigilant to catch these dogs.

"While we are not sure of the breeds, witnesses have reported the dogs are male and are of a large breed.

"If you see such dogs do not approach them. Phone council straight away.

"This violent incident has more than ever highlighted the need for pet owners to ensure their animals, dogs and cats, are under effective control at all times and not allowed to roam freely," she said .
