Patrons visiting Nambour Civic Centre between March 6 and April 15 will have the first opportunity on the Coast to have their photo taken with high profile New York artist Kelsey Montague’s #whatliftsyou interactive wings artwork.

Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson said he was delighted to welcome New York artist Kelsey Montague’s interactive artwork entitled #whatliftsyou to Nambour Civic Centre as a temporary installation.

“It is a real coup for the Coast to have an artwork of this calibre which allows people to join the online global campaign to become a living work of art for a moment – just like singer Taylor Swift did recently in New York City,” Cr Rogerson said.

“We are the first in Queensland to acquire our own personally created wings which will incorporate Sunshine Coast icons such as the Big Pineapple, Glass House Mountains, bunyas and more into the artwork.

“The artwork will move across the Coast for all the community to enjoy.”

Cr Rogerson said Nambour Civic Centre is certainly the place to be with some fantastic entertainment lined up over the coming months.

“Saturday, March 7 will see Vance Joy stopping at Nambour Civic Centre on his headlining tour before setting off to join Taylor Swift on her tour of North America, UK and Australia later in the year,” Cr Rogerson said.

“Queensland Theatre Company’s Boston Marriage promises a hysterical night of comedy and drama on Tuesday, March 24 at 7.30pm and Wednesday, March 25 at 10.30am.

“The exhilarating production Carnival of The Animals by Circa will entertain the whole family on Monday, April 13 at 6pm and Tuesday, April 14 at 11am and 1pm. Carnival of The Animals  includes whimsical tales of creatures of land and sea, who tumble, fly, leap and spin their way through the many wondrous worlds of the animal kingdom.

“And of course the Arthouse Cinema Nambour is the place to experience the best in arthouse, foreign and independent films.”

Sunshine Coast residents are invited to come and take their photo in front of the artwork from March 4 until April 15.

Each work is intuitively created, revealing multiple, intricate layers. These ‘drawings within drawings’ are imbued with memories, dreams, emotions and, above all, the artist’s belief that everyone should have the opportunity to become a ‘living work of art.’

Montague studied Art, Design and Media, with combined studies, at Richmond, the American International University in London, where she received an American Bachelor of Arts degree as well as a British Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honors.

Her large interactive murals have taken her to NYC, Denver, Las Vegas and San Jose, Costa Rica. Montague’s observations and experiences are translated into her drawings, offering an intricate interactive piece that is both broadly universal and deeply personal.
