Big Book Club explores award-winning The Elegance of the Hedgehog

Join a fun night of discussion and laughter at Sunshine Coast Libraries Big Book Club at council’s Maroochydore Library from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, September 15.

Special guests on the Big Book Club panel include Australian author and Professor of Creative Writing at University Sunshine Coast Gary Crew and popular local radio announcer and columnist Caroline Hutchinson. This dynamic duo will lead a review of Muriel Barbery’s award winning fiction, The Elegance of the Hedgehog.

Gary Crew is the author of over 80 illustrated books, short stories, anthologies, novellas and novels and his works are published in translation all over the world. 

Gary began the Bachelor of Creative Writing Program at USC and introduced the successful Doctor of Creative Arts program. He presents workshops for adult and student writers across Australia and South East Asia.

Caroline Hutchinson, previously a journalist and columnist is known as one of Sunshine Coast’s favourite radio announcers.

A literary best-seller, The Elegance of the Hedgehog is by the French novelist and professor of philosophy Muriel Barbery. Based on the life events of a concierge whose intelligence is revealed by the upper-class daughter of a Parisian family, the themes revolve around philosophy, class structure and conflict. Barbery’s novel sold over two million copies, has been translated into 40 languages and won critical and literary awards worldwide.

The Elegance of the Hedgehog will be available for purchase at the venue.

Tickets are just $25 per person and bookings are a must via council’s library website. Light refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages will be included.
