A revitalised shopping precinct with a fresh new look is the new year’s resolution for Bulcock Street in Caloundra.
Sunshine Coast Council will begin the Bulcock Streetscape project in February 2011. Major Projects Portfolio, Councillor Debbie Blumel said the project is one of a range of major projects that council is undertaking.
“This is one of many major projects that Council will deliver this year for the economic, social and environmental betterment of the Sunshine Coast,” she said.
“As with all of Council’s major projects of this nature, comprehensive consultation with local stakeholders was a crucial part of planning a positive outcome for the region.”
Acting Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said it was an exciting development for Caloundra.
“This development has been much anticipated and will benefit both local businesses along Bulcock Street and visitors to the area,” he said
“Caloundra Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the local Community Reference Group were closely involved in the Bulcock Streetscape project.”
Cr Dwyer said the works would extend from Felicity Place to Otranto Avenue and included a facelift for footpaths, new street furniture, lighting and landscaping.
“Planter beds and shade trees will be a feature of the project, as well as the installation of public art works to really improve the appearance of Bulcock Street,” Cr Dwyer said.
“Along with new footpaths and signage, a new pedestrian crossing will be placed at Otranto Street.
“Council will work with the business community to minimise disruption to traffic, shoppers and visitors and while work is in progress the street and Sunday markets will remain open for business.
“Further stages in this project will be considered as part of the 2011/12 budget discussions.”
