Sunshine Coast Council CEO John Knaggs has congratulated delegates at the Sunshine Coast Futures Conference for their passion, enthusiasm and ideas for a prosperous region.
The conference, a partnership between Sunshine Coast Council and University of the Sunshine Coast, was held at the Innovation Centre on November 7.
Delegates had the opportunity to workshop ideas for the region’s futures, speak to industry sector panellists and hear key speakers Sunshine Coast Economic Futures Board members David Foster and Andrew Pitcher, Chair of the Sunshine Coast Business Council Sandy Zubrinich, and Professor Ed Morrison from the Center for Regional Development Purdue University the US.
"The conference reinforced that our business, community, education and health leaders are committed to managing the region’s challenges and opportunities," Mr Knaggs said.
"Key note speaker Dr Ed Morrison’s advice to ignore negativity, to not give any credence to it, was a widely-held view by those in the audience.
"And being aware of the narrative we use in front of our children, especially as they reach their teens, made a lot of us stop and think.
"Are we, as parents, speaking positively about the Sunshine Coast’s future?
"It's important we all do, because retaining and attracting young people here, is a key ingredient for the necessary skill sets, jobs creation and leadership of the region and for building the vitality and vibrancy of our community."
