Caloundra City Plan is changing so now is the time to get involved
  • Thursday 04 September 2008

Amendments to the Caloundra City Plan, the planning scheme for the former Caloundra City, will go on public display next week (Monday 8 September) giving the community an opportunity to have its say on proposed changes that recognise the evolving nature of particular places and environmental issues in the southern part of the Sunshine Coast Region.

Statutory and Regional Planning Portfolio holder, Councillor Russell Green, said that the amendments, while not significant, were required to recognise changes to the former Caloundra City local government area.

“The amendments will provide for the development of the State’s Sunshine Coast University Hospital at Birtinya; will recognise the Moffat Beach Business Park Action Plan completed last year to enhance its potential for business activities; and will also provide consistency between the planning scheme and the Caloundra City Biodiversity Strategy, also formerly adopted last year,” Cr Green said.

“There are also some other minor amendments but while we may call them minor, they may impact on some residents. That is why I encourage you to review the document and have your say.

“The proposed amendments are aimed at ensuring the scheme aligns with adopted strategies and reflects the impacts of other developments such as the hospital.”

The Caloundra City Plan, alongside the planning schemes for the former Maroochy Shire and Noosa Shire, will remain in effect until a new Sunshine Coast Regional Council planning scheme is developed.

“This will take some time so until then, the processes of ensuring the three individual planning schemes remain living documents which reflect the needs and visions of our dynamic and diverse communities, will need to remain in place,” Cr Green said.

“This includes regular reviews and rounds of amendments to the schemes.

“So I encourage the local community to get involved and take a look at the proposed amendments, ask officers what they mean if you are unsure - and have your say.”

The current round of amendments to the Caloundra City Plan 2004 contains the development criteria and strategic direction for the southern part of the Sunshine Coast.
