Caloundra Music Festival launches tonight
  • Thursday 03 October 2013

A free concert and fireworks display will launch the seventh annual Caloundra Music Festival tonight.

African band Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars will perform on the Surf Stage in Lions Park, Kings Beach at 6pm.

Also performing will be Nicky Bomba of John Butler Trio fame, who has been workshopping with young local performers in the Shake It Up All Stars Big Band.

The concert will wrap up with a fireworks display on Kings Beach at 8:50pm.

Spectacular blue sunny skies will prevail when CMF, the festival of sun, surf and soul, kicks off at midday tomorrow.

This year there is a stellar line up of Australian and international performers who will transform Kings Beach into the happiest, family friendly beach party in the land.

Friday features Boy and Bear, Blue King Brown, Katchafire, Alex Lloyd, Ash Grunwald and US funkmasters Dumpstaphunk (who will also perform on Saturday).

Saturday features Eskimo Joe, Al McKay's Earth, Wind and Fire Experience, Jebediah, Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Russel Morris and Germany's rockabilly sensations The Baseballs (who will also perform on Sunday).

Sunday has The Screaming Jets, Xavier Rudd, The Basics (featuring the unmentionable famous drummer) and international guests Donavon Frankenreiter and The Holmes Brothers.

The festival will run for the first time onto a fourth day – Monday’s Labour Day public holiday – which will kick off with a recovery breakfast at 9am, followed by the inaugural Fusion Food and Wine Festival. The Fusion Festival – coordinated by Kim McCosker and her 4 Ingredients team – is free to attend.

The final day gets going at 2pm, with James Reyne, Daryl Braithwaite, Ross Wilson and Joe Camilleri coming together for the event’s two hour grand finale. US songstress Toni Childs will also perform from about 4pm.

Ticket prices start at $55/$30/$15 (adult/youth/child, for a single day ticket on Monday) and are available online or at the gate.

Organisers are reminding patrons to bring a reusable water bottle and leave the car at home if possible. Visit the website for parking and transport information.
