Carbon pollution reduction scheme – how will it affect your business?
  • Friday 17 April 2009

Got a small business and think the Federal Government’s carbon pollution reduction scheme won’t affect you? Think again! Council is holding a workshop explaining the expected impact the scheme will have on small business and how to prepare for these impacts, on 5 May at Australis Noosa Lakes.

The workshop ‘Moving to a low carbon economy – how will it affect your business’ is being run by Troy Harrison from Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ). Troy has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science with a masters in land and water management and has more than four years experience in eco –efficiency.

Troy has spent the past two and a half years working with CCIQ to help Queensland businesses to become more efficient and save money. As a part of his role Troy has developed an intimate understanding of the impending Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme and a specific understanding as to how the scheme will affect small to medium enterprise.

Troy will help participants understand the scheme (due to be introduced in 2010) and how the shift into a carbon constrained business environment will affect small to medium sized business.

Participants will also come to grips with what industry groups will be most affected and the future for their utility prices (including water, energy, waste transport, raw input materials).

Councils EcoBiz officer Emma Menzies will also be at the workshop showing how business can cut costs through reduced energy and water use and through more productive use of materials.

Council is committed to supporting small business and this workshop is the first in a series aimed at ensuring access to advice and information on key topics and trends that inform the growth and development local businesses and the regional economy.
