A crowd of 11,000 flocked to Cotton Tree and Kings Beach over the weekend for the Sunshine Coast Council’s two hugely successful Christmas carols concerts.

The legendary voice of former Eurogliders singer Grace Knight and a massive fireworks display drew locals and visitors from across the Sunshine Coast.

The two nights of family-friendly concerts kicked off on Saturday night when a crowd of 4,500 converged on the Maroochydore foreshore for Carols at Cotton Tree.

This was followed up by an even bigger crowd of 6,500 at Kings Beach on Sunday night, when overcast weather failed to keep away families toting picnic baskets and blankets.

The all-ages shows featured roving entertainers to amuse the kids before Grace Knight took to the stage. Other acts included local choirs the Buderim Male Choir, Caloundra Chorale and New World Rhythms.

Santa was treated like a rock star by adoring young fans who cheered his much-anticipated arrival.

The concerts included traditional carols, songs of peace in various languages and a kids’ pantomime.

Both nights were loudly capped off with the crowd-pleasing Energex Fireworks Show.

Council presented the two events in partnership with Stockland and both were hosted by SEA FM’s Morning Crew.
