Summer Reading Club

Underwater worlds, alternate universes, epic adventures, mythical creatures and so much more await discovery in the national Summer Reading Club program Lost Worlds throughout December and January at your local library.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said more than 41,000 children and young people across Australia participated in the Summer Reading Club last year and more than 260,000 books were read.

“We invite children to become part of the growing Summer Reading Club community that is reaching across Australia,” Cr McKay said.

“The theme for this summer’s club is Lost Worlds – everything about exploring and discovering new worlds, new lands and new people - and is packed full of adventurous things.”

It is easy to enter - just register in person at any Sunshine Coast Library or Mobile Library, or complete the online registration form on council’s library website www.library.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or call 5475 8989.

Summer Reading Club kicks off on December 1.

Children simply need to read five items of their choice over the summer holidays – this includes books, magazines, comics and e-books. Then they complete the reading log and hand it in to your local library by 5pm Wednesday, January 20, 2016.

There are five prize packs up for grabs including big craft box, scientriffic, Star Wars and Superhero prize packs.

Check the specially created Summer Reading Club website http://www.summerreadingclub.org.au/to find out about even more prizes and things to do including creating stories, meeting a celebrity author online or posting your art to the website.

Prizes include iPods, iPad mini and Adventure prize packs. There will also be mystery prizes and other incentives along the way and winners with winners notified by the end of January 2016.

Led by the State Library of Queensland, in partnership with the Australian Library and Information Association and other state and public libraries, the Australian Summer Reading Club is an annual program that aims to encourage a continued love of reading and ongoing multi-literacy skills development among children and young people during the summer holidays.

Be sure to participate in this year’s Summer Reading Club and head to council’s library website http://library.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/sitePage.cfm?code=kids-summer-read for full details.
