- Tuesday 11 January 2011
In the interest of public safety, Sunshine Coast Council has made the decision to close all cultural facilities across the region today (Tuesday 11 January) due to severe weather conditions. Safety for residents and staff is our primary concern during this time.
Council's major community venues - Lake Kawana Community Centre, The J and Nambour Civic Centre - have now been transformed into welfare centres. For anyone who is feeling unsafe and wishes to self-evacuate their homes, these venues will provide a safe haven and support services will be available.
Closed for normal business operations today are all of council's community venues, art galleries and libraries, Maroochydore Customer Service Centre and the Visitor Information Centres at Glasshouse Mountains, Montville, Bulcock Street (Caloundra) and Mooloolaba.
Council has also closed the Sippy Creek Animal Pound at Sippy Creek Road in Tanawha due to minor flooding. Residents are asked to look after any stray animals they may have found until the pound can re-open. Emergency situations will still be attended to by Response Service staff.
Check council's website for updates about when these venues will be re-opening.
