Sunshine Coast Council has approved a shopping complex incorporating a Coles supermarket at 107 Sippy Downs Drive in Sippy Downs.
Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said the development is exciting for locals who will be very happy to have more shopping options in Sippy Downs.
“The approval is for a shopping complex comprising retail and commercial uses, an educational establishment, conference centre, hotel, community meeting hall and 152 residential units,” Cr Dickson said.
“The development will be developed in stages and located opposite the University of the Sunshine Coast and within the Sippy Downs Town Centre Core Precinct.
“On site car parking will include a minimum of 519 parking spaces and the site will also be landscaped with the inclusion of shade trees and creative public art.
“There are so many positive outcomes from this proposal, the retail and commercial component covers an area of approximately 8,000m² - and that means a fantastic increase in the shopping options for locals.
“The environmental outcome will have significant benefits for local flora and fauna with the dedication of 13,500m² of land adjacent to the Sunshine Motorway as a Natural Habitat Reserve.
“There’s an additional 1,500m² of land with frontage to the future main street through town and that land will be available for the development of a community facility – we will eventually have a brand new community space to meet the needs of our growing population.
“We’ll be welcoming new residents to the area once the units are built as the residential component involves 152 multiple dwelling units consisting of 94 one bedroom units and 58 two bedroom units.
“This development is an absolute boon for the economic viability, social diversity and environmental sustainability of the area and I hope to see construction get underway as soon as the right operational works approvals are in place.”
