Community groups looking for a unique facility to hire for events and meetings are invited to attend a free viewing of the new Mary Grigor Centre on Monday, August 24 from 10am to 11.30am.

Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said the Mary Grigor Centre was a unique heritage interpretation, conservation and community meeting venue located in the grounds of state heritage listed Bankfoot House Heritage Precinct.

“The Mary Grigor Centre is a contemporary venue featuring interpretive displays showcasing the collection and stories of Bankfoot House,” Cr Baberowski said.

“In addition, the Centre offers two versatile spaces suitable for community meetings, events, performance and workshops.

“The enclosed verandah presents a functional inside–outside space which can accommodate seating for 50 people. The adjacent community meeting room has further capacity for 10 people.

“The Centre is available for bookings between 9am and 4pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, or by appointment, so if you’re interested don’t miss this opportunity to attend the special open day.

“The Centre was funded by the Sunshine Coast Council Heritage Levy, and supports the archival and conservation needs of the significant Bankfoot House collection, extending the heritage experience of the precinct.

“I look forward to welcoming community groups to the Mary Grigor Centre on Monday, August 24 to view this unique facility which is perfect for events and community meetings, and adds a new dimension to local spaces available for the community.

“The Friends of Bankfoot House will also be present on August 24 to conduct tours of the historic Bankfoot House.”

Located at 1998 Old Gympie Road and less than five minutes from Glass House Mountains township, with easy access from the Bruce Highway, the Mary Grigor Centre offers 10 on-site parking places (includes one disabled parking space) plus a roadside bus set down for groups visiting historic Bankfoot House.
