Community to advise council on rates
  • Saturday 20 September 2008

The Sunshine Coast Council invites ideas and suggestions about general rates and pensioner discounts.

Councillor Chris Thompson said that community members are encouraged to get involved by either applying for a position on the Rating Reference Group or by sending written feedback directly to council.

“Council needs to decide on the most effective rating strategy for the Sunshine Coast,” Cr Thompson said.

“And, we want to hear from those on the front line who will be affected by the decisions council makes.

“It makes sense to listen to all perspectives before developing new policy.

“This council assured the community that we will involve them more in our decision-making and this is an example of us delivering on that promise,” Cr Thompson said.

Meeting on four occasions during November and early December, the Rating Reference Group of community representatives, will look at the various options available regarding general rates and pensioner discounts.

The group will prepare a report of recommendations for council consideration.

Written submissions are also welcome.

Further details on how to get involved, as well as rating reference group application forms, are available from the council website at www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or through local council offices.

The deadline for applications and written submissions is Friday 3 October 2008.
