Community urged to remain cautious during wild weather
  • Wednesday 20 May 2009

The Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group this morning activated its control centre at council’s Nambour administration building to coordinate a response to the impact of heavy rain across the region.

The group, which includes representatives from council, Queensland Police, Queensland Fire and Rescue and Emergency Management Queensland, is advising that the significant rainfall and localised flooding over the last 24hrs is expected to ease today.

However, the group will remain on alert to monitor the situation, as the Bureau of Meteorology has indicated the possibility of further heavy rain, high winds and big seas from tomorrow afternoon.

The local community is advised to avoid any flooded areas, and to take caution on the roads and on local beaches.

The Bruce Highway near Caboolture was today partially closed due to flooding. Detours are in place and people have been advised to expect delays if travelling through that area. Further information and updates are available from the Department of Main Roads on 13 19 40.
