Cooroy’s timber story revealed in mosaic
  • Tuesday 08 December 2009

A colourful mosaic will greet visitors to Cooroy’s historic mill site from tomorrow, when Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot unveils a stunning new public artwork that celebrates the area’s rich history as a timber town.

Cr Abbot will be joined by Community Policy and Programs Portfolio holder Cr Jenny McKay to recognise the hard work of the many artists and volunteers, including the Green Army, who helped create the four-piece mosaic and information panels installed in the forecourt of the mill site.

Mayor Abbot and Cr McKay will enjoy a lunch with participants following the ceremony to celebrate the completion of this project, which was installed just over a week ago.

The theme of telling the timber story from original trees to finished product came from many research sessions including site visits, personal recollections and local history.
