A Master Plan for the Nambour Showgrounds adopted by Sunshine Coast Council today will provide a long term vision for this significant regional facility on the Sunshine Coast.

Division 10 Councillor Greg Rogerson said the Nambour Showgrounds Master Plan gives clear direction on how the Nambour Showgrounds will look and function in the future.

“The master plan will guide future development at Nambour Showgrounds so the site can function to its greatest potential,” he said.

“We have ensured the master plan is aligned with other key council strategies, community needs, population projections, statutory policies and regulations.

“The master plan looks to maximise the Nambour Showground’s economic development potential, and its value as a hub of significant community activity.

“In the long term, council envisions the Nambour Showgrounds as an event-focussed facility that is supported by a range of complementary community and recreation uses.

“The master plan recommends a number of onsite improvements that will achieve the long term vision of the site, and enhance the site’s function and sustainability. Some of these include an enhanced main entry, improved internal movement and parking, a new indoor multi-use facility, and improvements to the equestrian arenas, to name a few.

“One of the recommendations of the Master Plan includes the relocation of the Nambour Cricket Club however I would like to stress this will be subject to funding and finding an alternative site for the club.  A medium to long term timeframe has been identified to enable adequate planning for land acquisition and the development of alternate facilities for cricket uses.

“I would like to assure the community, when the time comes council will work alongside the Nambour Cricket Club to ensure  they are relocated to a site with similar facilities and amenity, and that a smooth transition is made.”

Cr Rogerson said council has funds to implement some aspects of the master plan within this financial year, so it will be exciting to see improvements happening on the ground in the near future.

“The master plan now also gives the regular users of the Nambour Showgrounds the ability to seek grant opportunities or source their own funds and start to implement some of the aspects of the master plan,” he said.

“The Nambour Showgrounds will continue to accommodate major community events such as the Queensland Garden Expo and Sunshine Agricultural Show. We will also look for opportunities to secure or create new events that contribute to the revitalisation of Nambour and complement existing uses and functions of the venue.

“The Nambour Showgrounds is a great place to visit and recreate, and it will continue to contribute to the vibrancy of Nambour.”
