Council and Red Cross Queensland formalise partnership

Sunshine Coast Council and Red Cross Queensland will officially join forces at a Memorandum of Understanding signing on Tuesday 27 July 2010.

The document signing, to take place at Nambour’s Council Chambers will cement council’s relationship with Red Cross as the number one provider of emergency evacuation relief and comfort to at-risk communities across the region.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will enable both organisations and the community to move forward with the knowledge of what will be expected of each party during an emergency.

Councillor and Chair of the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group, Tim Dwyer said the soon-to-be formal partnership between council and Red Cross Queensland is a real coup for the area.

"During an emergency, council uses the skills and resources of various organisations," said Cr Dwyer.

"But one of the most important services is provided by Red Cross Queensland. Their expertise in emergency evacuation provisions is second to none."

Council will soon have evacuation centre packs in stock and available to Red Cross for use in any emergency.
