Sunshine Coast Council, in partnership with twelve of the region’s leading industry, government and educational representatives, today announced a new economic development initiative, designed to encourage innovative, export-focused businesses to the Sunshine Coast to achieve the vision to become one of Australia’s most sustainable regions.

Mayor Bob Abbot said the Natural Advantage initiative was designed to attract national and international businesses that recognise the region’s enormous potential.

“Working in partnership with key stakeholders, we are encouraging new industries and businesses to consider basing themselves here on the Sunshine Coast,” Cr Abbot said.

“The region will boast some of Australia’s most sophisticated and sustainable master planned communities over the next 20 years, it is home to a growing and skilled workforce and offers significant lifestyle advantages over metropolitan cities.

“We are stepping up our efforts to take the message to the rest of the nation and the world - that the Sunshine Coast is fast becoming the business location of choice.”

Portfolio Chair, Economic Development and Entrepreneurship, Councillor Lew Brennan acknowledged the significant success of businesses already operating in the region and said that the initiative was about seeking companies that complemented, rather than competed with existing businesses and shared the region’s vision for a vibrant, green and diverse business culture.

“A number of industry sectors have been identified as a sound strategic fit for the business aspirations of the region including aviation, creative industries, digital industries, educational services, environmental technology, food and beverage industries, health and well being, light industry, professional services, sport and leisure and tourism and events.
