Council announces new grants program for community
  • Friday 30 May 2008

Council today endorsed a new grants program for 2008/09, showing its strong commitment to supporting the Sunshine Coast community.

The Sunshine Coast Regional Grants Program provides a range of grants to encourage, engage and support individuals and groups in the community to make a positive and ongoing contribution to the region.

Mayor Bob Abbot said “Council recognises the vital contribution community groups play in making our region such a great place to live, work and play.”

“These grants assist residents to carry out projects that will enhance the Sunshine Coast’s environmental sustainability, community wellbeing, economic prosperity and cultural life.”

“Over the past few months, Council officers have been working hard to design a single program including simple guidelines and application forms to make it easier for anyone across the region to apply for a grant” Mayor Abbot said.

The grants program will be officially launched next month, with public workshops to be held across the region in the coming months.

“The grants program will respond to local and regional needs and issues as identified by the community” Council’s Community Policy and Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said.

“The framework for Council’s grants program ensures the distribution and acquittal of funds is equitable, accountable and transparent.”

Information about the grants, including application forms and guidelines will be available from 18 June by logging onto Council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or contacting Council on 07 5475 7272.
