Council asks locals to share flood details

Do you have any information about the recent Kin Kin floods?

Sunshine Coast Council is keen to collect as much information as possible on the unprecedented rainfall and flooding experienced in the Kin Kin, Cooran, Pomona and Cootharaba areas.

Integrated Water Management Principal Engineer, Damian McGarry, said council is continuing to gather peak flood level information and rainfall records for the two recent flood events of Thursday 2 April 2009 and Monday 13 April 2009.

“Flood level or rainfall information from either or both of these recent flood events is of interest to us,” Mr McGarry said.

“We are asking anyone who has details that we can include in the records for this event to, please, contact council.

“This information is really important for the local community and will assist council with future planning, infrastructure design and emergency management of the region.

“We’re asking residents to register their contact details with council’s customer service centre or via email and a council officer will contact them to discuss their information.

“In the meantime, people who want to preserve their observations may wish to make a mark on a tree or a wall or a fence post using spray paint, a permanent marker or a nail. This will assist us with collecting the information over the coming weeks. “
