Council awarded for community engagement

Sunshine Coast Council has been recognised for its community engagement on the PLACE+ Beerwah project, receiving a Towards Best Practice Award from the Place Leaders Association (PLA).

The Awards were presented during the Place Leaders Association Great Communities make Great Places conference in Sydney last night.

The Award recognises council’s comprehensive approach to the development of Beerwah through collaboration between council, the community and key stakeholders.

Place Management and Delivery Portfolio Councillor Greg Rogerson said the award acknowledged that all council departments worked with the community for the Beerwah PLACE+ project.

"Council is working closely with the community to create the Sunshine Coast’s future. This award from the PLA is a fantastic recognition of council’s comprehensive approach to supporting the Beerwah community’s vision," said Cr Rogerson.

Council’s community engagement in Beerwah culminated in a Community Action Plan and a Council Action Plan. The Council Action Plan includes delivery of approximately $2.7 million in improvements over the next three years.

"Through the regional PLACE+ program, council will invest $38 million to protect and promote unique Sunshine Coast communities to make them even better places to live," he said.

PLACE+ uses Place Making principles, a philosophy based on building better communities and creating better places to live by focusing on long term commitments to people, places and partnerships.
