Sunshine Coast Council is inviting members of the community from across the Sunshine Coast region to form a reference group to study council’s general rates.
Financial Management and Business Unit Performance Chair Councillor Chris Thompson said that during the 2010/2011 budget process Sunshine Coast Council resolved to consult our community regarding its differential general rate structure.
"The Rating Reference Group (RRG) will examine various options available within the current legislation regarding general rates," Cr Chris Thompson said.
"The RRG will act as an independent advisory group to provide input into a report to council outlining options and alternatives," he said.
"The report assists council in determining the most effective rating strategy for the future.
"This council assured the community that we will involve them more in our decision-making and this is an example of us delivering on that promise."
"It makes good sense to listen to all perspectives before developing new policy so we want to hear from those on the front line who will be affected by the decisions council makes."
Written submissions are also welcome.
Further details on how to get involved, as well as Rating Reference Group application forms, are available from the council website or through local council offices.
Applications close on Friday 26th November 2010.
