Council calls for mentors in art
  • Tuesday 26 August 2008

Council is calling for the Coast’s arts industry professionals to nominate to mentor young people who are pursuing careers in the arts industry.

Arts industry professionals willing to mentor young people (on a paid basis) and pass on their significant knowledge and skills would genuinely assist young people just starting out in creative industries.

Vanessa Doolan, Project Officer for the Butter Factory Arts Centre said the role of the mentors would be to provide regular support to young people and put them in touch with arts industry professionals.

“Mentors would also share their own experience and industry knowledge and provide young artists with opportunities to create, manage and promote their specific interests and skills,” Vanessa said.

Mentors will hold workshops that include a range of visual art practices, industry business management and promotion, and curatorial practice.

“This learning framework offers a more informal but intensive learning experience than traditional learning.

“At the end of the mentoring program, the students will then have the opportunity to create works of their own for public presentation by running their own exhibition.”

Briefs outlining background and experience should be forwarded to Vanessa Doolan at Sunshine Coast Regional Council, PO Box 141 Tewantin 4565 or email Vanessa.doolan@sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au by 5:00pm on Friday 19 September 2008.
