Council and Department of Education and Training Queensland’s North Coast Region have partnered to deliver free professional development workshops for people working in the youth services sector in June.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the free Supporting Young People with Mental Health Concerns workshops were in response to specific learning and development needs identified by local youth support workers.

“The two-part workshop series booked out quickly and is provided as part of Council’s commitment to building strong and resilient youth services on the Sunshine Coast,” Cr McKay said.

“The workshops will be facilitated by Dr Caroline Gregory and Mr Matt McFarlane, psychologists with the PsyCare Group.

“The presenters will share their years of experience working as psychologists in the youth and welfare sectors.

“These workshops are designed to assist those people who support young people, particularly those experiencing or at risk of mental health concerns.

“The training will include an overview of youth mental health, self-care and team support and wellbeing strategies for youth and education sector workers.”

This professional development series is being provided at no cost as part of Council’s commitment to building strong and resilient youth services on the Sunshine Coast as outlined in the Sunshine Coast Youth Strategy 2010-2015.
