Council considers nominations for housing affordability taskforce

A list of 18 community and industry nominations for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Housing Affordability Taskforce were reviewed by Council’s Strategy and Planning Committee meeting yesterday.

The recommended representatives, including some changes, will be referred to next week’s Ordinary meeting for endorsement.

Director of Regional Planning and Strategy, Warren Bunker, said the taskforce was set up by Council to assist it in considering housing affordability issues on the Coast including crisis accommodation, social housing and housing affordability.

“Invitations to join the task force were widely distributed across the region to housing providers, community organisations, the development/building industry sector and government agencies.

“Our focus was to attract a diverse and knowledgeable mix of members from across the region.

“And we did that with close to 40 high quality nominations received by Council.

“Today, the committee considered the recommended representatives. Once approved by the whole Council, they will join Council’s elected reps on the Task Force – Councillors Anna Gorsskreutz and Vivien Griffin.”

Councillors on the committee referred the recommendation to the Ordinary meeting on Thursday 21 August for endorsement by the whole Council.
