The revitalisation of Nambour continued today with Sunshine Coast Council endorsing the draft Nambour Activation Plan for community comment. Divisional Councillor Greg Rogerson said council would call on the community to have their say on the draft plan during August.

"Nambour has faced its share of challenges but the council, local businesses and the community are focused on seeing the opportunities and using innovative ideas to make Nambour a thriving and extraordinary place,” Cr Rogerson said.

“This draft plan draws on Nambour’s current assets to continue to build business and community confidence by trialling new ideas, activating the streets through creative events and furthering some key projects.

“These temporary and inexpensive solutions, if successful, may then be the catalyst to inform the long term infrastructure investment required for more permanent solutions."

The draft plan is built around five placemaking locations - Howard Street and its heritage listed tram tracks, the Town Square and nearby high streets, the Council building forecourt, C Square and Petrie Creek.

“This draft plan is the result of a collaborative effort by the Nambour Project Working Group, made up of community and business representatives, so there has already been a lot of input from across the town," Cr Rogerson said.

"We had a great mix of people and ideas.

“But the success of the draft plan rests with the whole community, so I encourage everyone to get involved and have their say during August.

"We'd like to know whether our vision is our community's vision, whether anything has been missed out, what people like or don't like.

"We believe this is a great way forward for Nambour."

More information on the plan will be available on Council’s website from August.
