Sunshine Coast Council engineer Jason Deller has taken out the 2010 Engineer of the year Excellence Award for his commitment to improving local government road safety.
Project Director for Integrated Transport Planning Graeme Krisanski said the award was presented to council’s Principal Strategic Transport Planner by the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australia, Queensland Division Inc. (IPWEAQ).
“Mr Deller has made a significant community impact and his energy and passion for road safety has impacted on road safety practices in Local Government and probably already saved lives,” Mr Krisanski said.
“Jason is currently developing the Sunshine Coast Sustainable Transport Strategy and setting the direction for a sustainable, highly efficient, integrated and safe transport system on the Sunshine Coast.
“This isn’t the first time Jason has been in the spotlight, he won a Queensland Road Safety Award and an IPWEAQ Encouragement Award before becoming a finalist in the 2009 Public Sector Professional of the Year in the IPAA Queensland Public Sector Excellence Awards.
“The road safety partnership project led to the adoption of the Moreton Bay Council’s first Road Safety Strategy and recent establishment of the Queensland Road Safety Partnership Steering Committee to enhance local government participation in developing and implementing road safety strategies and initiatives.”
The Excellence Awards dinner was attended by representatives from Queensland and all States from local and state government agencies and private sector engineering industries.
The judging criteria covered planning, innovation, community and economic contribution, sustainability, environmental impact, management and project management.
