Visual artists, multimedia producers, actors, musicians and dancers – these are just some of the professional artists and art practitioners who are encouraged to apply for grants up to $10,000 in Sunshine Coast Council’s latest round of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said she had been excited to see the high calibre of Sunshine Coast artists who have applied for RADF funding in past rounds.
“Council encourages artists from a wide range of disciplines to apply for RADF funding – it can give their career, skills development or latest creative project a big helping hand,” Cr McKay said.
“It’s great to see the high quality, unique work the Sunshine Coast arts industry continues to produce, and I’m proud council can help the artists through RADF funding.
“This latest round of funding will kick off with the RADF Showcase event on 18 July, which will celebrate the achievements of previous recipients.”
Previous Sunshine Coast Council RADF recipient Michael Ciavarella, who will speak at the RADF Showcase event, said the funding had helped him grow the profile of his project The Matchbox Show and the ceramic artists who contribute to it.
“The Matchbox Show is a collection of miniature ceramic works in matchboxes, contributed by artists and everyday people – it’s an ongoing artwork, which continues to grow, helping to keep the arts of ceramics alive,” Michael said.
“RADF has helped me promote the project and its contributors, encourage others to submit pieces, run workshops for the community, showcase the collection at regional galleries and exhibit internationally.
“I’m taking the current collection of 800 pieces to the International Ceramics Conference in China later this year and hope to have 5000 pieces for the Finland conference in 2014.”
RADF is a Queensland Government partnership through Arts Queensland and Sunshine Coast Council to support local arts and culture.
Applications for this Sunshine Coast Council round of RADF funding close at 5pm Sunday 1 September 2013.
