  • Friday 23 October 2009

Sunshine Coast Council is inviting comment on its plan for managing and protecting the Coolum Creek Conservation area. The feedback submission deadline is 30 October.

Residents can view the Statement of Management Intent on the get involved section of council’s website.

Environment portfolio holder Cr Keryn Jones said that the statement is an important road map for the Coolum Conservation Area.

“The statement provides the guiding principles for managing and protecting the Coolum Creek Conservation area. It sets out the values, proposed management aims and guidelines for protecting those values,” Cr Jones said.

“Our aims for protecting bio-diversity, preserving our cultural heritage, recreation and education as well as research and monitoring are clearly outlined.”

“We will use this document to guide the day to day management of the area but also as a road map to help us achieve our long-term goals for the area.”

Division 9 councillor Vivien Griffin said that the Statement had been developed in partnership with the community through the Coolum Creek Working Group.

“We’ve had some great input so far from some very dedicated and passionate people, now we want to open that up to allow everyone to have a say.

“I’d encourage residents to review the statement online and help contribute to the protection and long-term management of this important area,” Cr Griffin said
