Council keeps Laguna Lookout looking good

The picturesque and popular Laguna Lookout at Noosa Hill is set for a summer spruce up.

Sunshine Coast Council will conduct maintenance of vegetation from Monday 19 December. Division 11 Councillor Russell Green said the purpose of the works was to improve the amenity of the lookout and ensure the area was not adversely impacted by growth of adjacent vegetation.

"Vegetation adjacent to Laguna Lookout is starting to obstruct the view across the Noosa River, the hinterland, Noosa beach and the Noosa North Shore," he said.

"The majority of work will involve minor pruning with some selective removal of problematic tree species, which is consistent with council’s proactive tree management philosophy and supports sustainable passive recreational use of the reserve.

"The area will also be mulched to ensure proper erosion and sediment controls are in place and signage will be in place for the duration of the works."

The area adjoining Laguna Lookout forms part of the Yunaman Bushland Reserve. The planned works will be undertaken by an accredited arborist in a manner that is consistent with the reserve’s environmental values and management program.

Cr Green said the local community supported the vegetation works.

"This work at Laguna Lookout falls within the scope of council’s scheduled maintenance program for the Yunaman Bushland Reserve," he said.

Works are expected to be completed by Friday 23 December.
