Sunshine Coast Council is pleased to confirm that they have purchased a block of land in the township of Beerwah.

Division 1 Councillor Anna Grosskreutz said that the purchase is a major milestone for the Beerwah community.

"Through this purchase council has demonstrated its commitment to open planning and the creation of spaces for the community to be able to decide how they would like to see them developed," Cr Grosskreutz said.

"Council’s Open Space Strategy 2011 identified the need to investigate increasing the capacity for Turner Park in Beerwah.

"The property purchased is strategically located as it adjoins the existing park which is in accordance with council's open space policy direction.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for the Beerwah community and will be complementary to the Place making project that has commenced and has a comprehensive community engagement program.

"Council plans to demolish the existing buildings and transfer the land to open space for recreation park purposes.

"The community will be invited to have input into the final design of the new section of park in the 2012/13 financial year.

"Market value was paid for the dwelling based on a valuation."
