Council posts out July rates’ notices

Rates notices will arrive in letterboxes for 153,000 Sunshine Coast properties over the next few days, as council today started mailing out its first rate run of the 2010/11 financial year with a value of $136 million including the state government fire levy.

Finance and Business Executive Director Greg Laverty said all rate payers should try to take advantage of the offered five per cent discount off general rates.
“If rates are paid by August 20th, for eligible pensioners there is no maximum limit on this discount but it is capped to a maximum of $100 for non-pensioners,” Greg Laverty said.

“On this rates notice, you will notice some changes as council is no longer looking after your water supply and sewerage services,” Greg Laverty said.

“Instead Unitywater, that was established as a result of the state government’s water reform changes, will send you a separate account for these services and you will pay them directly,” he said.

Council continues to make it as convenient as possible to pay rates:

  • Ratepayers can pay online at anytime of the day or with Post Billpay, or via BPay with participating financial institutions.
  • Those who do not have access to the Internet still have the convenience of paying by credit card over the phone via 131 816 from anywhere in Australia and following the prompts.
  • In addition, customers can pay in person at any branch of Australia Post, by cash, cheque or from a nominated savings account.
  • Alternatively, payment can be made at one of council’s Customer Service Centres open from 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday (addresses identified at the bottom of your Rate Notice).
  • Post a cheque or money order to their local Sunshine Coast Council office (addresses identified at the bottom of your Rate Notice).

To assist with your online or over-the-phone payments, please have your customer reference number from your rate’s notice handy.

Ratepayers who cannot make payment by the due date can enter into an arrangement to pay by instalments. As long as you meet the conditions of the arrangement, council will not charge any interest on this current half-year’s rates.
