Council retains sustainable vision

Council will continue to strive for the Sunshine Coast to become to Australia’s most sustainable region.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said councillors have agreed to retain the vision as it captures the key priorities for council for the next four years.

"To become Australia’s most sustainable region—vibrant, green, diverse, is a worthy goal – one we are all keen to achieve," Mayor Jamieson said.

"We need to strengthen the economy, protect the environment, and cherish the character of our communities.

"The word sustainable captures everything we want to do; a sustainable economy, a sustainable environment and sustainable communities.

"That means delivering an economy that not only creates jobs but careers – so our children don’t have to leave town when they leave home.

"That means protecting the environment so the next generation gets to enjoy the region’s lifestyle just as much as we do.

"That means maintaining our community of communities – so the region keeps its unique character.

"Fundamentally, we want to deliver a vibrant community, a green environment and a diverse economy.

"We’re proud to build on the solid foundations of the previous council, while also providing our own take on how to achieve the vision.

"It was a great achievement to be named the second most environmentally sustainable region in the country – this council will strive for similar success across all areas: environment, community, and economy."
