Sunshine Coast Council’s commitment to outstanding engineering has been officially acknowledged at state level.

Council collected three ‘gongs’ at the Institute of Public Works Engineering State Excellence Awards.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said awards were received for the Maroochy Sand Renourishment Project, the Landscape Infrastructure Manual and the Place+ Beerwah Public Domain Improvement Project.

“This is an outstanding achievement for council to have our work acknowledged at a state level,” he said.

“Congratulations to the divisional and portfolio councillors for supporting these projects and the council staff whose professional expertise, dedication and hard work contributed to the winning of these very prestigious awards.”

Director of Infrastructure Services Andrew Ryan said all of the awarded projects had delivered outstanding outcomes for the Sunshine Coast community.

“The Place+ Beerwah Public Domain Improvement Project received the ‘Overall Excellence Award’ and it has transformed the town-centre of Beerwah into a safer, more picturesque space that is already strengthening local businesses,” he said.

“A special community celebration event will be held tomorrow evening in Simpson Street to mark the completion of this great project.
“The Landscape Infrastructure Manual (LIM) received an ‘Excellence Award’ in the asset management category. It is a construction guide that provides guidance during the design, development and delivery of council controlled open space and assists with the maintenance of council assets.
The Maroochy Sand Renourishment Project received a ‘Commendation Award (projects $1million to $5million category). It has helped to restore around 125,000 cubic metres of sand to Maroochydore Beach via a dredge and pipeline since 2012 in strict accordance to environmental standards and government permits.

“The project has also involved native planting to stabilise sand dunes and protect the beach from erosion.”
