Council supports more car parking in Wurtulla

At today’s Ordinary Meeting Sunshine Coast Council unanimously agreed to approve amendments to the Kawana Waters planning instrument that brings the establishment of a car park at Wurtulla/Bokarina a step closer.

Division 3 Councillor, Peter Cox said it was a very positive outcome for car parking management in Wurtulla/Bokarina.

"Although there are a few more steps to go before we see the car park established and in use, today’s decision is a significant move in the right direction," Councillor Cox said.

"I’d like to acknowledge Blue Care for their proposal to establish a temporary car park on part of their land holdings at Wurtulla.

"Council has worked closely with Blue Care, Youi and Stockland to find a positive solution that takes into account the needs of local residents and businesses in the area.

"When the car park is constructed it will provide an attractive all day parking option for Youi Insurance staff.

"Youi has been a highly valued business and major employer on the Sunshine Coast since they established their head office here.

"We all want to see more employment in the area and alleviating car parking concerns is a high priority for the benefit of the local community, Youi staff and council.

"As a result of today’s decision Stockland is able to lodge an application, on behalf of a commercial operator, to establish a temporary car park directly across the road from the Youi office.

"Once Stockland has lodged the application we will have a better estimate for when the car park will be operational – hopefully that won’t be too far away."
